Sweet Preview
Dundee school children became VIPs for the day at an exclusive sweet preview of improvements being made for the new season at Shaws Dundee Sweet Factory and Visitor Centre , the only visitor attraction of its kind in Scotland.
Shaws are working hard to implement new ideas at the Visitor Centre following their own visitor research and suggestions made by the Scottish Tourist Board when they awarded the Visitor Centre a "Commendation" last December. Managing Director Derek Shaw said:" We are determined to build on the growing popularity of the Visitor Centre and achieve our aim of becoming Scotland's only sweet factory and visitor centre - and Dundee's third, Highly Commended, visitor attraction.
"This year, the Centre is even more child friendly with a well stocked soft play area for younger children, drawing books for older children, and our irresistible selection of lollies, toffees, fudges, and boiled sweets which include old favourites like soor plooms and humbugs.
"Today has been a tough assignment for Shaws - and great fun - as the children have been relentless in putting us through our paces." he added.
The thirty two Primary Three children, from the nearby Clepington School, undertook a detailed investigation to check that the improvements are up to scratch. The seven and eight year olds scrutinised every step of the sweet making process along the Viewing Gallery, waited in eager anticipation to perform tasting assignments on the chocolate sweets produced during the chocolate making demonstration; and performed a thorough examination of the full range of sweets on sale in the factory sweet shop.
